- What is DSO Chess Club?
DSO Chess Club is a community of chess enthusiasts who come together to play, learn, and enjoy the game of chess. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, the Chess Club provides a welcoming environment for everyone to share their passion for chess.
- How can I join the club?
Joining the club is simple! Attend one of our regular meetings or events and introduce yourself. You can also check our website or social media pages for information on upcoming events and how to become a member. You have to RSVP before you show up as the spaces are limited.
- Is there any age restriction?
No. Anyone can join as long as you can play the game.
- What happens at the DSO Chess Club?
Chess happens! On most weekends we just casually play chess and socialize. People are free to play whoever they want and with or without a clock at whatever time controls they want. Some people chat and slowly play, some people learn from the better players, and some people just try to play as many games as they can. It’s really up to you.
- When and where does the Chess Club meet?
We play at My Home Kitchen in Dubai Silicon Oasis. Our meeting schedule may vary, so it’s best to contact us directly for the most up-to-date information on meeting times and locations. Typically, we aim to meet every Friday, Saturday, Sunday 8.30 – 11 PM.
- Do I need to be a skilled chess player to join?
Not at all! We welcome players of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced players. Our community is built on the shared love of chess, and we encourage players to learn and improve together.
- Do I have to know how to play chess to come to the club?
Yes. If you have no experience in playing chess, it will be best to join an academy or sign up for lessons online.
- Do you provide chess training/lessons?
No. We are NOT an academy and we do NOT have trainers in the club. Once you learn the game you are welcome to join us, regardless of your level.
- How much does the club cost?
Nothing. It’s FREE! However since we host our games at ‘My Home Kitchen‘ restaurant we show appreciation to our hosts by ordering food and drinks while we enjoy our games.
- Do I need to bring my own chess set and clock?
While we provide chess sets and clocks during club meetings and events, you are more than welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Having your own set can be convenient, especially if you wish to practice outside of club meetings.
- What is the rating of the regular players at the club?
We have players rated 1000 – 2000 on FIDE/Lichess/Chess.com.
- Do you host chess tournaments?
Not at the moment. However our members regularly participate in FIDE rated tournaments held across the UAE.
